This chair has become iconic with Modern style design.
Originally designed in the 1940's by Charles and Ray Eames, this chair has reinforced itself as a popular classic used in all interiors. In 1948 Herman Millar began producing the Eames designs and continue to do so today.
Constructed of three curved plywood or layers of wood veneer shells, glued and together and shaped under heat and pressure to mould the unique shape. The shells and seat cushions are essentially the same, the headrest and back of the chair are of the same proportion as are the seat and ottoman. The base and frame are of aluminium. The cowhide is worked to ensure it stretches evenly when upholstering due the natural variations, giving a plush, luxurious finish.
This sophisticated, sleek model is manufactured by hand due to the materials and infinite detail required to produce this design. Many replicas exist, but nothing can beat the craftsmanship and design of the original "Eames".
As designers, we love this piece as it makes a strong design statement, is comfortable and luxurious and fits well in all interiors.
